Happy New Year from Isla Fisher Web

I’d like to wish you all a very Happy New Year! I hope you have a fun night if you’re celebrating tonight, and that 2011 is a wonderful and happy year for you!

Professionally it’s been a very quiet year for Miss Isla, although personally she’s (reportedly) had a pretty fantastic year, what with a marriage and new baby! Early next we’ll be treated to hearing Isla in the animated comedy Rango, and hopefully we’ll get some other new projects too. Thanks for your support of Isla Fisher Web this year – the site has undergone a change in owner and I hope to continue bringing you the best on Isla in 2011!

New parents go for star quality

They have both been gracing the big screen this year, and it seems stars Daniel Radcliffe and Isla Fisher might also have been influencing the parents of Edinburgh.

Daniel and Isla have topped the chart of most popular baby names in the Capital, after a year in which Radcliffe returned to our screens as Harry Potter and Fisher featured as Ginny in Burke and Hare.

Daniel has shot up the chart from fifth place last year, knocking Jack from the top spot, while for Isla it is the second year at the top of the chart.

Also popular for boys in Edinburgh this year were Alexander and James, with Sophie and Olivia second and third for girls.

However, Daniel didn’t even appear in the charts for West Lothian or Midlothian, with Jack the favourite in both areas.

In East Lothian, Oliver was top of the list, followed by Daniel, then Lewis. Emily was the most popular girl’s name, with Isla second and Ava third.

Pregnant star tells of corset poser

Burke and Hare actress Isla Fisher revealed she only pretended to squeeze into a corset for the period comedy because she was three months pregnant during filming.

The 34-year-old actress – who gave birth to her second child with husband Sacha Baron Cohen this summer – plays actress Ginny in the black comedy directed by Blues Brothers’ John Landis.

Her character is the love interest to Simon Pegg, who stars opposite Andy Serkis in the film as infamous grave robbers Burke and Hare.

At the film’s premiere at the Curzon Chelsea in London, she said: “That was difficult because I was pregnant during the making of the movie, so I didn’t really squeeze into it. I used to pretend I was wearing a corset and then not wear it, just wear a push up bra – don’t tell the director that.”

The Australian actress – who also has a three-year-old daughter Olive – revealed that Pegg did not notice she was pregnant while they were working together, even though she was suffering from terrible morning sickness.

Isla Fisher: My co-star thought I was bulimic

Isla Fisher claims her co-star assumed she had an eating disorder when she was suffering from morning sickness on a film set.

The Australian actress has just finished filming Burke and Hare – a black comedy set in Scotland about two Irish migrants who killed people in order to sell their bodies for scientific research.

The low-budget film stars Simon Pegg and was directed by John Landis, who also directed Michael Jackson’s Thriller promo.

Isla said that while shooting the film she was struggling with morning sickness but Simon just assumed she was making herself ill in order to keep slim.

“I was actually pregnant during the shooting and I had severe morning sickness and I didn’t eat anything and I just vomited all the time,” she told BBC Breakfast Show “Simon Pegg is the least observant actor in the planet because he didn’t notice. I think he presumed I was just a typical Hollywood bulimic actress rather than the fact that I was severely sick.”

The 34-year-old star – who has just given birth to her second child with Sacha Baron Cohen – launched her acting career on Australian soap opera Home and Away.

Isla Fisher’s My London

Home is…
Wherever my family is.

Where do you live in London?
In Marylebone, but I would love to live permanently at Brown’s Hotel in Mayfair and eat high tea every day.

What was the last play you saw in London?
War Horse at the National Theatre; the puppets were amazing and it was very moving.

What advice would you give a tourist?
Don’t wear a hood.

Which shops do you rely on?
I love Ottolenghi in Islington for breakfast; everything in there is incredible from the salads to the cakes and coffee. My favourite kids’ store is Petit Aimé on Ledbury Road, and for one-stop shopping nothing beats Topshop, if you can brave the loud pop music. Rellik in Ladbroke Grove is amazing for vintage clothing and one-off pieces.

What’s the best meal you’ve ever had in London?
Amaya on Motcomb Street in Knightsbridge is the best place in the world for Indian fusion cooking.

What’s your earliest London memory?
I went to Madame Tussauds with my parents when I was four and I remember being mesmerised by the frozen figures.

Isla Fisher Tests Comedy On Cohen

Isla Fisher tries out all her new comedy characters on her husband Sacha Baron Cohen before anyone else.

The ‘Wedding Crashers’ actress – who has two children with her funnyman spouse – admits they can’t help but discussing their work at home, and she loves testing out new ideas on him first because he is the “funniest” man she knows.

When asked if they compete against each other for laughs, she replied: “No, but I definitely can’t help myself from trying out new characters on Sacha. I think in all relationships, particularly if you’re in the same field, you end up bringing work home with you. At the same time, you never want your relationship to be just about work.

“Sacha’s the funniest man I know, and that’s on and off camera.”

Isla loves being a comedy actress, but admits she hasn’t found parts easily.

She explained to Culture magazine: “Even though I studied comedy, I didn’t know I could do it for a living. It felt like too much fun.

“After I did ‘Wedding Crashers’, I felt really optimistic about my future, but there weren’t the opportunities I’d imagined to follow such a big commercial movie. The roles offered were to play the girlfriend of another comedian. They would get to do the joke, and you’d roll your eyes. I was a little disillusioned and ultimately grew more and more frustrated.”

Isla is currently based at home with their daughter Olive and their second child – who was born in secret this summer – where she has been working on a new film idea.

She explained: “I’ve actually been working on a movie idea my husband came up with, a character for me, which I do around the house.”

Isla and Sacha welcome 2nd baby?

Following on from reports and candid photos earlier this year suggesting Isla was pregnant again, new candid photos have emerged that appear to show Isla has given birth to her second child! People.com has posted a photo of Isla, Sacha and Olive taking a stroll in London last Friday, with Isla pushing a baby pram. Reports are saying the baby was most likely born at the end of August/beginning of September. Isla and Sacha “likely won’t be commenting on the birth of the new baby,” a rep for the actress told People.

If these reports are correct, then Isla Fisher Web would like to send a big congratulations to the Cohen-Fisher family! I hope they get to enjoy their new bundle of joy in peace 🙂

Isla Fisher, Pregnant Again?

As you might have already noticed, reports are stating that Miss Fisher could be expecting her second child! Candid imagery (View some on Just Jared or People) have snapped the actress sporting what looks to be a baby bump. Isla Fisher and her husband, Sacha Baron Cohen also have a two and a half year old named Olive.

The couple, are known for their steady silences when it comes to confirming personal news — they kept quiet regarding daughter Olive‘s birth, as well as their recent nuptials — so it’s no surprise when contacted for comment, reps for the couple remained mum.

We of course will report if something official is said either way. If it is indeed true – congratulations to the happy family!
