“Rise Of The Guardians” character art

A couple of months ago, Entertainment Weekly released the first character art for Rise Of The Guardians, along with some information about the characters and the creation of them. Have a read of the main part of the interview with director William Joyce, including the bit about Isla’s role as Tooth Fairy, below, and read the full article at the source linked at the bottom. There’s also another article about the film at The Hollywood Reporter, which talks about the effects of the movie and mentions the reaction of initial screenings to audiences.

I’ve added the Tooth Fairy character art to our Gallery, alongside the posters and a few stills. Normally I wouldn’t add photos that don’t feature Isla herself, but I know some of you are interested to see the animated works.

The article also talks about the release of the first trailer, and you can find that here. Find the official website for the film at www.riseoftheguardians.com.

You’d better watch out for DreamWorks Animation’s ‘Rise of the Guardians’ — NEW PICS & TRAILER

Have you ever believed in something so strongly that you made it real?

William Joyce definitely has.

The artist and storyteller, who wrote the books Dinosaur Bob and George Shrinks and did character design for the movies Toy Story and Robots, wanted his daughter, Mary Katherine, and son, Jack, to have no shadow of doubt that Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy were real. So he began planting evidence — like a bad cop, or maybe the world’s best dad.

Those efforts have led to a series of books and an upcoming 3-D film from DreamWorks Animation, Rise of the Guardians, in which tough-as-nails versions of childhood icons join forces to combat a Boogeyman named Pitch.

With a new trailer showing off the Nov. 21 movie, Joyce takes a deep dive with EW on the story behind his backstories.

The way Joyce explained it to his own kids, the more faith one has in the existence of what he dubbed The Guardians of Childhood, the more power these protectors have.

First trailer for “The Great Gatsby”

The first official trailer for The Great Gatsby has been released today! It looks suitably lavish, mysterious and intense, I think, and the cast look brilliant. I’m even more excited for this film now! However, I don’t see Isla as Myrtle in this trailer … did you? Big thanks to my friend Lindsey for pointing out Isla in the trailer to me! You have to watch very closely, she’s only shown twice for the tiniest flash. I’ve added HD screencaptures to the Gallery.

You can watch and/or download the trailerin HD at Apple.com. An official website for the film has also been launched at thegreatgatsbymovie.com. And alongside all this new material is the first official poster, which I will add to our Gallery in a minute (see our ‘Last Uploads’ on the sidebar).

Props to Carey Mulligan Online for the heads-up on the trailer. Watch the trailer below, and leave a comment below if you want to say something about it…

Isla cut from Dictator

Isla Fisher has revealed she had a role in her husband Sacha Baron Cohen’s new movie but it didn’t make the final cut.

The Perth-raised actress, who is in Cannes to promote her latest film, the DreamWorks animation Rise of the Guardians, was meant to play a Russian prostitute in Cohen’s comedy The Dictator. However, as often happens to the best of actors, footage of the 36-year-old funny girl ended up on the cutting room floor.

“And (Sacha) still expected me to do press for the movie,’ Fisher jokes.

“No really, it didn’t work for the movie. I have been through a thousand edits and I have no ego when it comes to this stuff.”

Fisher recalls the last time she was in Cannes when her husband strutted on to the beach in a mankini to promote his film Borat.

“I am happier to see him on a camel,” she says, referring to Cohen’s publicity stunt last week when he chose an unusual animal to take for a morning stroll.

It was one of a number of stunts Cohen has pulled while promoting his new movie around the world, including during his visit to Australia earlier this month.

Cannes 2012: DreamWorks Animation Promotes ‘Rise of the Guardians’

Alec Baldwin, Chris Pine and Isla Fisher, who lent their voices to the film about iconic figures like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny, liken it to “The Avengers.”

Alec Baldwin called them “the Justice League of childhood.” Actress Isla Fisher called them the “animated Avengers.” They are the Guardians, the title characters in the 3D animated movie Rise of the Guardians, that DreamWorks Animation will open stateside Nov. 21.

In what has become an annual tradition for the Burbank, Ca.-based studio, DWA is using the Cannes Film Festival to show off its latest wares to the assembled international press. On Friday, DWA’s summer release Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted will get the full red-carpet treatment when it screens at the Palais. And as a sort of curtain-raiser, on Wednesday morning as the festival was just getting under way, the studio staged a press event of its own to show off footage from Guardians.

Introducing the show-and-tell, DWA CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg credited author and illustrator William Joyce for the project’s genesis. It all began when Joyce’s daughter asked him if any of the characters that fuel kids’ imaginations – Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy – had ever met. “You’re going to hear the answers to that today,” Katzenberg said.

Director Peter Ramsey then took the stage to lay out how the movie, based on Joyce’s The Guardians of Childhood book series, has reinvented the iconic characters: Santa Claus is North, a big guy, with a booming, Russian-inflected accent voiced by Baldwin; the Easter Bunny becomes the tunnel-travelling Bunnymund, voiced by Hugh Jackman; ToothFairy is a half-hummingbird, half-human creature to whom Fisher lends her voice; and the Sandman is a silent character, who Ramsay described as “a cross between Harpo Marx and Bhudda.” In the movie, they are joined by a new recruit, Jack Frost, voiced by Chris Pine, as they all do battle with the Boogeyman, who goes by the name of Pitch and is voiced by Jude Law.

Isla at the Cannes Film Festival “Rise Of The Guardians” Q&A

The Cannes Film Festival began today, and I was surprised to discover that a Q&A for Rise Of The Guardians was held there today, and that Isla was in attendance! Isla and her co-stars Chris Pine and Alec Baldwin, alongside director Peter Ramsey answered questions from the press and talked about their film. During the discussion, Isla called the movie “the Avengers of animation”, and when asked who her guardian is, she joked “the CIA”! She also said (and this is loosely translated):

“In film, the characters fight so that the children of the world continue to accept the legends. Me, I do not have this problem: as my children are brought up in the Jewish tradition, so they do not believe in Father Christmas. That makes the task easier for me.”

Photos from the Q&A can now be seen in our Gallery. Isla looks fabulous as always in a low-cut V neck little black dress.
