Isla Fisher discusses charity donation: ‘I wanted it to be private’

Isla Fisher discusses her and Sacha Baron Cohen’s charity donation: ‘I wanted it to be private’

Isla Fisher has addressed the large charity donation she and husband Sacha Baron Cohen made last year.

The couple gave over £670,000 to charity over Christmas last year.

They donated £336,000 to The Sunday Times Christmas appeal to help children in Syria in the wake of a threatened measles outbreak there. They also gave the same amount to International Rescue Committee, run by David Miliband in New York.

Now Aussie actress Fisher has spoken about the generous donations, saying that although she would have preferred it kept out of the headlines, she is glad that the publicity has highlighted issues she cares deeply about.

She told Metro.co.uk: ‘I think that it’s been very hard watching the international community really do nothing about the Syria situation for a long time, so I was actually…when you make a donation you do want it to be private, but I think it’s important that we highlight the issues that are going on for children in Syria because it’s very serious.’

Sacha Baron Cohen Says Borat Is Probably Wife Isla Fisher’s Least-Favorite Character: ‘She’s Had to Make Love to All of Them’

Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen were the picture of glamour when they walked the red carpet on Sunday for the BAFTA Awards.

The couple, who share three children, held hands outside London’s Royal Opera House in complimentary looks.

Fisher, 40, stunned in a simple, white curve-hugging Stella McCartney gown with her red hair swept into old hollywood curls. Cohen, 44, donned a dark suit with a black bow-tie and white pocket square.

While on the red carpet, Cohen joked with PEOPLE about how his real life compared to the glamorous red carpet.

“Yes every day when I’m in the shower there at least 15 cameras in there,” the actor told PEOPLE.

ING banks on actress Isla Fisher to spearhead new branding campaign

ING banks on actress Isla Fisher to spearhead new branding campaign

Five years since dropping comedian Billy Connolly in favour of a talking orang-utan, ING Direct is betting on actress Isla Fisher to power its latest assault in the competitive $4.3 trillion banking market.

As several banks, including ANZ and ME Bank, refresh their marketing, ING will today unveil Fisher as its first celebrity ambassador since Connolly and the face of a new advertising campaign to power its strategy of trying to be customers’ “primary bank”.

Led by Fisher — who holds an ING Orange Everyday transaction account — rallying customers to share their experiences, the campaign launched through social media channels on Friday before a wider assault on June 14 across television, cinema and digital.

ING, the nation’s fifth-largest mortgage lender, hopes encouraging customers to share their experiences will show others “how banking can be”, while giving the bank with insight into how it can improve products and services.

“Given the existence of social media, it’s happening anyway. Our customers talk a lot about us,” ING chief Vaughn Richtor told The Australian, adding the bank’s leading net promoter score — a measure of customer advocacy — provided confidence to “amplify” the discussion. “They say nice things about us, they also say things we should start doing or things we could do better, either way it’s valuable as we’re human beings and we don’t get it right every time but what we do look for is continuous improvement and the only way to do that is do those things customers truly value.

“It’s not some vague promise it’s actually what we deliver … a broad range of products and a great experience.”
