“Nocturnal Animals” to screen at the Venice Film Festival

Venice Film Festival: Lido To Launch Pics From Ford, Gibson, Malick & More As Awards Season Starts To Buzz – Full List

The 73rd Venice Film Festival has set a strong lineup of world premieres including anticipated films from such helmers as Denis Villeneuve, Pablo Larrain, Derek Cianfrance, Tom Ford, Terrence Malick — and in an out of competition slot, the latest from Mel Gibson, Hacksaw Ridge. They join the previously announced opener, Damien Chazelle’s La La Land. The festival has been dedicated to two recently deceased directors: Michael Cimino and Abbas Kiarostami.

Artistic Director Alberto Barbera has had an impressive run over his past few outings curating the Lido event which increasingly acts as a solid primer/launch pad for awards season (think the world premieres of Gravity, Birdman, Spotlight and more). This year, Barbera whittled down 1,468 features to a selection of 56 total, including 20 in competition.

The first few days of Venice can be expected to be frontloaded with the splashier titles which then make their way to Toronto and/or Telluride, and often onto the awards circuit. The glamourous, yet accessible, fest is a key chance for studios to get conversations started and films and talent in front of the world media. Doing double-duty this year, Amy Adams stars in both Ford’s Nocturnal Animals (Focus) and Villeneuve’s Arrival (Paramount) — both of which were the subject of mega-deals in recent Cannes markets (see below). Natalie Portman will be seen as Jacqueline Kennedy in Chilean helmer Larrain’s Jackie, and stars in Rebecca Zlotowski’s out of competition Planetarium with Lily-Rose Depp. In Cannes, Larrain told me Jackie would not be a classic biopic.

Venice runs August 31-September 10.

“Nocturnal Animals” to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival

Toronto To Open With ‘The Magnificent Seven’; ‘La La Land’, ‘Deepwater Horizon’ Among Galas & Presentations

The 41st edition of the Toronto Film Festival will open with Sony and MGM’s The Magnificent Seven, as Deadline predicted last night. The Antoine Fuqua-directed remake of the classic 1960s Western stars Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Haley Bennett and Peter Sarsgaard. It marks latest collaboration between Fuqua and Toronto. Fuqua brought Training Day and leading man Washington to TIFF 15 years ago.

The announcement was made this morning at a news conference presided over by TIFF director and chief executive Piers Handling and artistic director Cameron Bailey. The 41st edition of the festival runs September 8-18.

The closing-night film will be Kelly Fremon’s The Edge Of Seventeen, starring Hallee Steinfeld and Woody Harrelson. Other films selected for this year’s festival include Oliver Stone’s Snowden, David Oyelowo-Lupita Nyong’o starrer Queen Of Katwe, Amma Asante’s A United Kingdom, Jeff Nichol’s Loving, Gemma Arterton starrer Their Finest and much-anticipated musical LaLaLand, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.

Also selected are Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals, his sophomore feature as director, Rooney Mara-starrer Una, Cannes sensation Paul Verhoeven’s Elle, starring Isabelle Huppert and Ben Younger’s boxing drama Bleed For This with Miles Teller.

A traditional launchpad for awards season, Toronto will see indies and studios go up against each other as they send their eagerly anticipated fare into the marketplace for the first time. Last year’s big winner was Lenny Abrahamson’s Room, starring Brie Larson. In addition to winning the coveted Audience Award, the film also went on to earn Larson an Academy Award for best actress and noms for best film.

Here’s the full list of galas and special presentations:

Isla to answer fan questions on CBBC’s Book Club

As part of their ‘Awesome Authors Week’, Isla will be answering fan questions for CBBC’s Book Club to promote the upcoming release of her children’s book ‘Marge In Charge’. I’m unsure whether this is an online event or something that will be broadcast on TV as yet, but drop on by the CBBC Book Club website to read a bit more about it!

Twitter photo from “Marge In Charge” event

Whilst browsing Twitter I came across this photo from Emily Burns, who is Head of PR at a publishing company – it looks as if it was a very low-key event relating to Isla’s upcoming children’s book Marge In Charge. If anyone has any more information then please get in touch!

Isla at the “Grimsby” Los Angeles Premiere

Isla attended the Los Angeles premiere of Grimsby a couple of days ago, and posed alongside Sacha who attended in character. Isla wore a leather mini-dress by David Koma, with shoes by Louboutin and jewellry from Anita Ko, her hair was styled (and cut shorter!) by Adir Aberge, and make-up by Sabrina Bedrani. Check out photos from the event in our Gallery, and further down this post are videos, articles and info about Isla’s new haircut…

Isla Fisher Chopped Off Her Hair! Get All the Scoop on Her 10-Inch Cut

We’ve long envied Isla Fisher for her gorgeous, fiery long locks, but now, we’re wishing we had her hair for another reason: she’s gone short (and it’s so chic)! The actress hit The Brothers Grimsby red carpet Thursday night with a major haircut, and we’ve got all of the details on the chop from her longtime hairstylist, Adir Abergel.

For many ladies, the decision to lop 10 inches off their locks requires months of consideration. For Fisher, it was a split decision.

“We did it last minute before she went on the red carpet, about 40 minutes before she left,” Abergel tells PeopleStyle. “It was my idea. I came in and she was like, ‘What do you want to do this time?’ And I said, ‘Let’s do it — let’s chop it off!” The final product? A “new, modern length,” which Abergel described as “a longer version of the lob we’ve been seeing.”
