Jay-Z set to produce score for The Great Gatsby film

Jay-Z is reportedly set to help write the score to Baz Luhrmann’s big screen remake of The Great Gatsby. The rapper is apparently working with the Bullitts’ Jeymes Samuel on music for the film, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Isla Fisher.

The news was revealed over Samuel’s Twitter account: “Jay-Z and myself have been working tirelessly on the score for the upcoming #CLASSIC The Great Gatsby!” he wrote. “It is too DOPE for words!” Neither the filmmakers nor the rapper have confirmed the announcement.

Samuel, who is the younger brother of Seal, has built a musical reputation on the back of just a few singles: Supercool, Landspeeder, and Close Your Eyes. This last song features actress Lucy Liu and the rapper Jay Electronica, who is signed to Jay-Z’s management company. Samuel has also written and directed They Die By Dawn, a forthcoming western starring Idris Elba.

As for Jay-Z, Luhrmann is a long-time fan and the Australian director used one of the rapper’s songs for The Great Gatsby’s first trailer. Luhrmann also seems to have gone fully H.A.M.on the set of the film: “On my first day he had Jay-Z pumped up full, and we did the entire scene with … Jay-Z in our ear on full blast while acting,” Fisher told MTV News. “It was just so liberating.”

Isla Fisher’s Best Of 2012

Because Isla has had a busy year this year, I thought it would be fun to do a Best of 2012 post – as we finally have some things to pick ‘bests’ of!

It’s been a Fisher fantastic year for fans, with Isla having two films released this year – Bachelorette and Rise Of The Guardians – and promoting them both. She started off her 2012 in Sundance, where raunchy comedy Bachelorette was premiered with co-stars Kirsten Dunst and Lizzy Caplan. The film was one of the most talked about of the festival, and Isla took part in photoshoots and interviews for it. We were treated to another sighting of Isla a few months later, when she turned up to support her husband’s movie The Dictator at its London premiere. She looked fresh in a pale blue Dolce & Gabbana mini dress, showing off her great figure. A few weeks later Isla took a trip to the Cannes Film Festival where her new animated comedy Rise Of The Guardians was screened. Isla and co-stars Chris Pine and Alec Baldwin took part in a Q&A for the film, and Isla also attended the Calvin Klein Women In Film event with good friend Naomi Watts.

First character posters from “The Great Gatsby”!

Warner Bros have just released the first 3 character posters for The Great Gatsby, and Isla smoulders as Myrtle Wilson in one of them! She looks fantastic all in red. I also really like how the posters feature lines about the characters from the novel. Click the thumbnail on the left to view the full size poster in our Gallery.

See the poster for Joel Edgerton and Elizabeth Debicki here and/or here.

Gatsby role a dream for Fisher

Gatsby role a dream for Fisher

Isla Fisher has revealed that getting a role in The Great Gatsby was a dream come true.

The Wedding Crashers star, who plays Myrtle Wilson in Baz Luhrmann’s lavish big-screen adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel, admitted the opportunity to work with the Australian filmmaker was a “no-brainer”.

“That was amazing. An opportunity to work with Baz was a no-brainer,” said the Australian-raised actress.

“Baz is my favourite director, obviously. He’s Australian and I love all of his films. So, it was fun. It’s just nice to go home to Australia too.”

Isla – who next voices the Tooth Fairy in Rise Of The Guardians – never imagined that she would have been cast in the movie alongside Carey Mulligan, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire.

Isla on the cover of Australian In Style

Woooahh, more fantastic Fisher news – Isla is on the cover of the new December issue of Australian In Style magazine! Albeit slightly in disguise – I sense a bit of photoshopping going on? Still, Isla wears a gorgeous dress by J’Aton Couture on the cover, and it is so great to see her on the cover of another big magazine, so we give major props to In Style for that!

The magazine is on news-stands now, so make sure you pick up a copy. Highlights from the interview can be read below, and you can see the cover in our Gallery. I’ll be on the lookout for scans, and if anyone can help me out with providing them that would be fabulous 🙂

InStyle cover girl: Isla Fisher

Unassuming and playful, Isla Fisher has never lost her delightful Aussie charm, despite being based overseas for the better part of a decade. Together with her husband, comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, and their two daughters, Olive, 5, and Elula, 2, Fisher splits her time between LA and London. This month she talks to InStyle about her new role in the wickedly funny comedy Bachelorette, and being one half of one of Hollywood’s most intriguing power couples.

In movies like Wedding Crashers, Confessions of a Shopaholic and now Bachelorette, you consistently play extreme women. What draws you to these manic roles?
“I played a bipolar nymphomaniac in Wedding Crashers and now I’m playing a coke whore. I’m just trying to make my dad proud [laughs]. Truthfully, I’ve always enjoyed playing characters that are unusual people. There’s a bunch of actors who can play normal people better than I can. I enjoy it more when I can play someone who exists in a heightened reality, someone a little more wild.”
