Cannes: Protagonist takes sequel to hit Danish comedy ‘Klown’
Sequel to the hit Danish comedy to include cameos from Isla Fisher, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and Game of Thrones’ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
Protagonist Pictures has taken on worldwide sales rights outside Nordic territories to Klown Forever, the sequel to the 2010 smash hit Danish comedy Klown.
Protagonist has also taken over worldwide distribution of the first film and will be talking up both at next week’s Cannes Marche.
Based on a Danish TV series that ran from 2005 to 2008, the Klown films centre on the irreverent antics of two thirtysomething best friends and comedy partners Frank, played by Frank Hvam, and Casper, played by Casper Christensen.
Hvam and Christensen also wrote both features, while one of Denmark’s biggest film-makers Mikkel Norgard (The Keeper Of Lost Causes) returns to direct the sequel and Jesper Zartov produces.
In Klown Forever, Frank and Casper’s friendship is tested when Casper decides to move to Los Angeles and pursue a solo career there. Determined to win back his friend, Frank follows him to California for a holiday of spectacular misadventures.
Among the cameo apperances in the film are Isla Fisher, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and Danish heartthrob Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game Of Thrones).
Klown, which was acquired for US remake by Warner Bros, has a host of self-declared celebrity fans including Sacha Baron Cohen, who hired Hvam and Christensen to write his next film The Lesbian at Paramount.
The film was distributed by Nordisk in Scandinavia and grossed more than $10m in Denmark alone, recording more than 855,000 admissions; it was sold by TrustNordisk to Drafthouse in the US and Arrow in the UK among other territories.
Nordisk is releasing Klown Forever this September in Denmark and both Hvam and Christensen will be in Cannes to launch the film to Danish and international media.

“Now You See Me” sequel has an official title
Mark Ruffalo recently took to his instagram account to reveal the title of the Now You See Me sequel, which is Now You See Me: The Second Act. The synopsis is as follows:
One year after outwitting the FBI and winning the public’s adulation with their mind-bending spectacles, the Four Horsemen resurface in Now You See Me: The Second Act only to find themselves face to face with a new enemy who enlists them to pull off their most dangerous heist yet.
John Chu directs the returning cast of Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman, along with new additions Daniel Radcliffe, Lizzy Caplan and Jay Chou. Still no official word on whether Isla will be returning, though!
The film is currently set for release on June 10th 2016.

Isla Fisher is joining Fox 2000’s spy comedy “Keeping Up With the Joneses,” an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

Jon Hamm and Zach Galifianakis are already cast in the film, which follows a suburban couple who discover their picture-perfect new neighbors are actually undercover spies. Galifianakis and Fisher play the couple, while Hamm plays one of the spy neighbors.

“Adventureland” helmer Greg Mottola is directing from a script by Mike LeSieur. Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are producing.
Fisher, who broke out opposite Vince Vaughn in “Wedding Crashers,” was last seen in “The Great Gatsby” and “Now You See Me.”
She is currently filming “Grimsby” opposite real life husband Sacha Baron Cohen and is represented by CAA and Mosaic.

Isla drops out of “The Dressmaker”
Back in May it was reported that Isla had joined the cast of Aussie film The Dressmaker. Inside Film now report that she has had to drop out of the film, and will be replaced by Sarah Snook:

Kate Winslet, Judy Davis, Liam Hemsworth and Hugo Weaving star in The Dressmaker, a tale of love, revenge and haute couture now shooting at Docklands Studios.
The ensemble cast includes Caroline Goodall, Shane Bourne, Kerry Fox, Rebecca Gibney, Sacha Horler, Shane Jacobson, Alison Whyte, Genevieve Lemon and Sarah Snook.
There have been two changes in the cast since it was first anounced in Cannes. Elizabeth Debicki dropped out to play the lead in the Foxtel drama The Kettering Incident, replaced by Sacha Horler. And Isla Fisher dropped out and Sarah Snook took her role.
“Now You See Me 2” and “Grimsby” release dates
Lionsgate has announced that Now You See Me 2 (rumoured to be titled Now You Don’t) will be released on June 10th 2016. Michael Caine has revealed that Daniel Radcliffe will be joining the cast as his son. Some recent reports suggest that Isla will not be returning for the sequel because she will be otherwise engaged with family business (we will wait to hear what – if anything – Isla and Sacha say on this!) when filming is due to start in November.
Isla and Sacha’s first project together – Grimsby – will be released on July 31st 2015. The film is said to be about a British Black-ops spy whose brother is a football hooligan.

Jon M. Chu is in talks with Lionsgate to direct “Now You See Me 2,” which is set for a fall start.
The studio has been touting “Now You See Me 2? as a key component in its strategy to capitalize on franchises. It has not yet dated the sequel.
Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher and Mark Ruffalo have been signed to reprise their roles from last year’s comedy-drama, which grossed $350 million worldwide.
Louis Leterrier directed the original from a script by Edward Ricourt, Boaz Yakin and Ed Solomon with a team of four magicians — also known as The Four Horsemen — pulling off a series of daring heists against a corrupt bank. “Now You See Me” was produced by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Bobby Cohen.
Chu directed three “Step Up” movies, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” and “Jem and the Holograms.” He’s repped by WME, Principato-Young Entertainment and attorney Allison Binder.

Isla Fisher Joins Husband Sacha Baron Cohen in Sony’s Spy Spoof ‘Grimsby’
Fresh off back-to-back box office hits “The Great Gatsby” and “Now You See Me,” Isla Fisher has signed on to join her husband Sacha Baron Cohen in Sony’s upcoming spy spoof “Grimsby,” TheWrap has learned.
The action-comedy finds Mark Strong (“Kick-Ass”) playing a British black ops spy who is forced to go on the run and team up with his idiotic English football hooligan brother (Baron Cohen).
Ian McShane and Rebel Wilson co-star alongside Annabelle Wallis, David Harewood, Oscar-nominated “Precious” star Gabourey Sidibe and English comedian Johnny Vegas.
Fisher will tackle a key supporting role, possibly as a femme fatale or other comely vixen.
Louis Leterrier (“Now You See Me”) is directing from a script by Baron Cohen, Phil Johnston and Peter Baynham, with Baron Cohen and Johnston sharing story credit.

Baron Cohen and Nira Park will produce, while Johnston and Baynham will executive produce along with Adam McKay, Todd Schulman and Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner. Fisher next stars in the Blumhouse movie “Visions” and Dan Schechter’s Elmore Leonard adaptation “Life of Crime.” She’s represented by CAA, Mosaic, Shanahan Management and attorney Warren Dern.
