Lizzy Gardiner’s Story of the Fame Game – Very rare old interview with Isla

I came across this very old and rare clip of Isla in a documentary about fame and soaps, in which she talks about working on Home & Away – it’s a great blast from the past – enjoy!

Lizzy Gardiner’s Story of the Fame Game (1997)

Director and interviewer Lizzy Gardiner had her own taste of fame when she won the Best Costume Design Oscar for The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

Costume designer Lizzy Gardiner interviews the head of drama for the Seven Network, Jonathan Holmes, about the longevity of young soap stars. Gardiner also speaks to Isla Fisher about being a star of TV serials. Fisher says she has to have multiple personalities to speak to fans, press, producers and friends. We see Isla on set in the studio for the filming of Home and Away.

Isla on the cover of Easy Living Magazine

Check out Isla on the cover of the new issue of UK Easy Living magazine! It is once again a new photoshoot and interview, and the photos released so far are just beautiful. The cover is to promote The Great Gatsby.

Read quotes from the interview further down this post, and find the cover and first two pictures from the shoot in our Gallery. I’ll be on the lookout for scans, of course.

More event and tv appearance photos coming tomorrow!

‘I put on 10lbs… by eating cupcakes!’ Isla Fisher admits she used her ‘natural instincts’ to gain weight for Great Gatsby role

It’s a situation actresses wish for – to be told they need to gain weight for a movie role.

So when Isla Fisher was given free reign to pile on the pounds to play Myrtle in The Great Gatsby, she made sure she did so by chowing down on her most desired sweet treat – cupcakes.

Isla admitted to Easy Living magazine that gaining the 10lbs she needed to for the role was easier than she thought it would be.

She said: ‘I was breastfeeding, so I had a little flesh of my own, I am proud to admit, but I also gained 10lb, just by following my natural instincts.’

Asked what she meant by that, Isla replied: ‘Cupcakes!’

Fisher: I’m sentimental about Bay

Fisher: I’m sentimental about Bay

Isla Fisher has revealed that she doesn’t mind if people remind her of her days on Home And Away, unlike former co-star Melissa George.

The 36-year-old actress, who played Shannon Reed in the Australian soap from 1994 to 1997, has since carved out a successful career in Hollywood, starring in comedies like Wedding Crashers, Hot Rod and Confessions Of A Shopaholic.

“I feel like everything in the past has led me to where I am today, and I’m incredibly grateful for that experience and that exposure,” she said at the UK premiere of her latest film Rise Of The Guardians.

Isla, who voices the Tooth Fairy in the animated feature, added: “I’ve been lucky that the people that remember that part of my life feel quite sentimental about it, so I always feel super-sentimental about it too.

“To be honest, no one has really brought it up for years. When people come up to me now, it’s for Wedding Crashers, not Home And Away.”

Melissa, who played Angel Parrish from 1993 to 1996, was not happy after she was recently asked about her soap days on Australian talk show The Morning Show.

Old “Home & Away” episodes to be broadcast in the UK for a month

Great news, old school Home & Away fans! Channel 5 is once again taking a break from showing new episodes during the “summer” months in the UK, and they are going to be showing a selection of older episodes in place of it!

Read a bit more about it below, and find out about the choices of episodes from Isla’s years on the show (1994-1997) at Channel5.com. My memory is not that good, so I can’t recall which of the selected episodes she featured heavily in, but obviously the episode from 1994 about Shannon and Curtis’ secret will be all about her – so let’s hope that episode will be shown!

‘Home and Away: From Day One’ will launch on digital channel 5* on Monday, July 30 as the show’s feature-length pilot from 1988 is aired.

Viewers’ favourite episodes from 1989 to the present day will then be played in a Home and Away double bill from July 31 until the series returns on the main channel on Monday, September 3.

Three episodes have been shortlisted for every year between 1989 and 2012. The two most popular episodes from each year will play out weeknights from 6pm on 5*.

Additionally, the episode which ranks in third place will be available to watch exclusively online at Channel 5’s official Home and Away website. This will also be where viewers can vote for their favourite episodes.

Original cast member Ray Meagher, who plays Alf Stewart, added: “Channel 5 is offering UK viewers a real treat this summer. All the classic episodes are here and many of the first appearances from some of the current key cast including Marilyn, Irene, Morag and a slightly younger Alf.”

“Home & Away” screencaptures – Isla’s first and last episodes

To celebrate Isla’s birthday, I decided to dig out some of the Home & Away videos on my computer, and have made screencaptures from Isla’s first and last episodes on the show! Her first two episodes, from 1994, showed a soft-spoken and quietly feisty Shannon and her foster brother Curtis come to Summer Bay to meet potential new foster families and decide whether they wanted to live with them. Obviously they liked what they saw, as they stayed 😉 Three years later, and Shannon gave the Bay an emotional farewell to move to Paris with her girlfriend.

Many of the screencaptures are very poor quality, so I apologise for that, but we’re lucky to be able to get any videos of Isla’s episodes, and you can still get an idea of what she looked like and what happened in the episodes from these caps.

Fortunately I found these videos on YouTube, so you can all see them too! I have embedded them further down the post for you.
