Isla writes new children’s book series – Mazy the Movie Star

Isla is writing a new children’s picture book series! This one will follow Mazy the dog, who is based on Isla’s own dog:

In a gilded kennel lives a famous movie star named Mazy. While other dogs chase sticks at the park, Mazy chases her acting dreams. But then one morning Mazy’s agent delivers bad news. They are only giving acting jobs to pedigrees now. Can Mazy embrace what it is that makes her special and find her perfect role?

It will be published in the UK on May 12th 2022, and in Australia and New Zealand on May 3rd 2022. Pre-order here (UK) or here (Aus).

Welbeck Flame has acquired three picture books written by actress and comedian Isla Fisher and illustrated by Paula Bowles.

Jane Harris, group publisher for Welbeck Children’s, made the deal for world rights in Fisher’s text with Stephanie Thwaites at Curtis Brown. The first in the series, Mazy the Movie Star, will be published in the UK on 12th May 2022.

The series will follow Mazy, a character inspired by Fisher’s own dog, and is set in “Hollywoof”, a version of Hollywood populated entirely by dogs. While other dogs chase sticks at the park, Mazy chases her acting dreams—until one day her agent delivers bad news. They are only giving acting jobs to pedigree dogs now. Can Mazy embrace what it is that makes her special and find her perfect role?

Fisher said: “I am very excited about Mazy the Movie Star, which is based on our very own glamorous pooch. Mazy desperately wants to be something other than herself, a pedigree, in order to get better acting roles in Hollywoof. Mazy learns, with the help of her furry friends, that she’s perfect just the way she is and stands up for mutts all around the world!”

Harris said the “hilarious” series “illustrates wonderfully the underlying theme so important to young children, to always be themselves. A message not just for children but for us all, told in Isla’s original comedic voice that resonates loud and clear. I am still chuckling!”

Fisher, who is best known for her role in “The Wedding Crashers”, is the author of four children’s books, all published with Piccadilly Press: Marge in Charge (2019), Marge and the Secret Tunnel (2018), Marge and the Great Train Rescue (2017) and Marge and the Pirate Baby (2017).

Isla Fisher has worked in TV and film for 25 years. She has played many fun and different characters, but her favourite role is being a mummy to her three children and she has been making up stories at bedtime for them every night since they were born.Paula lives in Bristol, where she has worked as an illustrator for over 10 years. She used to work in a preschool, where she got to run around pretending to be a crocodile, went on Bear Hunts and made play-dough cakes. As well as drawing, she loves getting out of the city for long walks and cycle trips in the fresh air. Oh, and she once learned to walk the tightrope!

More “Wedding Crashers 2” rumours

Rumours about a Wedding Crashers sequel have surfaced again this week, although there is still nothing confirmed.

Production Weekly have reportedly listed Wedding Crashers 2 as being ‘in production’, and scheduled to start shooting in Puerto Rico in August, with Isla, Rachel McAdams, Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn set to return. The original director, David Dobkin, is also listed as returning. The listing implies that this will air on HBO Max.

However, Screen Rant write that there is nothing confirmed, and “New Line Cinema, the studio that produced Wedding Crashers has refuted the tweet [below] as “inaccurate.” The studio has not greenlit the sequel at this time.”

We’ll keep you updated on further news…

From Summer Bay soap star to Hollywood heavyweight, Isla Fisher has lived most of her life under the media spotlight. But when it comes to her family - and the three children she shares with actor and satirist Sacha Baron Cohen – she’s fiercely protective. “Motherhood is actually my favourite topic – but I keep it private,” she tells marie claire on the set of our June cover shoot. “I think all parents are trying to protect their kids, especially in the social media age. I want our children to have a normal childhood – being able to play outside without pressure or scrutiny.
