Isla to return to “Arrested Development”

Isla announced on her Instagram page a few days ago that she is “back on Arrested Development” – she will re-join the show for their 5th season, after her guest stint on season 4 back in 2013. Season 5 started development last month, and is set to air on Netflix in 2018.

Star Jason Bateman teased the premise of the 5th season to Entertainment Weekly a few months ago, saying:

Season 5 of the quirky comedy will involve a murder mystery, Bateman teased earlier this month on EW Radio (SiriusXM, channel 105), picking up with the events of season 4, which debuted on the streaming service in May 2013.

“The central spine of that story of is the death of Liza Minnelli’s character [Lucille], and a bit of whodunit, who may have done it, who had something to do with it,” Bateman explained. “That’s sort of a central thread around which [creator Mitch Hurwitz] is going to braid in all the colorful plot complications that he knows how to do.”

Unlike season 4, when episodes focused on individual characters rather than group scenes — a workaround due to cast scheduling conflicts and commitments — Bateman, who popped up in various scenes to help anchor the show, says the cast will be together for the new 15-episode season, which will debut in 2018.

Isla Fisher Announces Her New Children’s Book Series: Reading Is an ‘Integral Part of Childhood’

Actress Isla Fisher charmed audiences in Wedding Crashers, and now, she’s channeled her quirky humor into children’s books.

PEOPLE has the exclusive cover reveal for her book Marge In Charge, which is the first of a three-installment series and will be published in the U.S. this fall.

” ‘Don’t worry about being perfect or you’ll miss out on the fun!’ That’s the message in the Marge books,” Fisher tells PEOPLE when describing the middle-school book series, which follows the adventures of two siblings and their unorthodox babysitter Marge.

“Jemima, who is the narrator and the eldest child, feels she has to be a ‘good girl,’ so thanks to Marge she learns to let her ‘freak flag’ fly and enjoy being a kid,” continues Fisher, 41, a mother of three.

In conjunction with the U.S. book deal, Fisher will be the final speaker at the BookExpo’s Children’s Book & Author Breakfast on June 2 (which will also feature authors Jason Reynolds, Marieke Nijkamp and Jennifer Weiner). There, she’ll discuss her upcoming book, as well as personal stories tied to her love for literacy.

“It saddens me when I think about how much vocabularies are shrinking — I know mine is, and there’s only so much I can blame on lactation,” writes Fisher about what inspired her to create the series.

Isla at the AACTA’s

As expected, Isla attended the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards (AACTAs) in Sydney earlier today, where she was presented with the Trailblazer Award. She was accompanied on the red carpet by her husband, and her mum Elspeth was inside for the ceremony with them. Isla was presented with her award – which she calls the “pinnacle” of her career – by Aussie actor Geoffrey Rush, and thanked fellow Aussie actresses and fellow orange person Donald Trump in her speech! Isla wore a classy black crystal polka dot dress by Aussie designer, with Bulgari jewellery. Read more from the night in the posts below (many of the links have good red carpet video interviews and ceremony footage in them that can’t be embedded here) and find the first HQ photos in our Gallery. Isla Fisher to receive the AACTA Trailblazer Award

Congratulations to Isla on this fantastic honour!

Isla Fisher takes out AACTA Trailblazer Award

AACTA has named Isla Fisher as the recipient of this year’s AACTA Trailblazer Award, designed to recognise “the achievements, abilities and successes of an Australian screen practitioner who inspires others with their portfolio of work.”

The AACTA Trailblazer Award is a discretionary award, determined by the board and president of AFI | AACTA. It was first awarded to Rose Byrne at the 4th AACTA Awards.

After her start on Home and Away, Fisher broke in the States with 2005 comedyThe Wedding Crashers. She has since gone on to star in the likes of Definitely, Maybe; Confessions of a Shopaholic; and The Brothers Grimsby alongside husband Sasha Baron Cohen. Despite being a self-described ‘comic actress’, Fisher has also appeared in The Great Gatsby and the recent Nocturnal Animals.

Outside of acting, Fisher also published two teen novels at age 18; ‘Bewitched’ and ‘Seduced by Fame’. She has also co-written two scripts with Amy Poehler and her first children’s book ‘Marge in Charge’ was released earlier this year.

CEO Damian Trewhella said Fisher’s work in the international screen industry has added to Australia’s reputation for producing outstanding screen talent.

“From her breakout roles in Home and Away and the international comedy Wedding Crashers to her critically acclaimed dramatic performances in The Great Gatsby and Nocturnal Animals, Isla has carved a diverse career we hope serves as an inspiration to other Australian performers.

We also recognise Isla’s influential role as a champion for female comic actresses – a cause she has advocated for over a decade and which marries with one of AACTA’s most important aims – to foster talented Australian screen practitioners who serve to mentor and inspire the next generation of Australians to pursue their craft to its full potential.”

Isla Fisher said: “I’m so honoured to be recognised by the Australian Academy and my Australian peers as a trailblazer in film and television. That I am considered among those Australians who are inspiring the next generation of talent is a true honour. I’m looking forward to coming back to Sydney to accept the AACTA Trailblazer Award.”

Fisher will accept the award in person this Wednesday at the AACTA Awards Ceremony held at Sydney’s Star Event Centre.

Also in attendance will be Fisher’s husband Cohen, presenters Jessica Marais, Michael Caton, Marta Dusseldorp, Shane Jacobson, and Stephen Curry alongside guests Josh Thomas and Greta Scacchi.

The AACTA Awards will be televised on Channel 7 at 8.30pm with an encore screening on Foxtel.
