More details on the “Wedding Crashers” sequel

Variety and Deadline have more news on the potential sequel to Wedding Crashers that Isla teased us about during her recent appearance on The Today Show:

So What’s The Deal With ‘Wedding Crashers 2’? ‘Fist Fight’ Scribes Evan Susser & Van Robichaux Wrote Script

While Isla Fisher was promoting her turn in the Tom Ford-directed Nocturnal Animals, she let slip in a Today interview that she heard things were moving toward on a sequel to the 2005 hit comedy Wedding Crashers. So what’s really happening?

Insiders say there is reason to be hopeful, even though it’s not near a green light because the stars need to sign off creatively and then make deals that will be pricey. I’m told is a sequel script has just been turned in by Evan Susser & Van Robichaux to New Line, and the plan is for David Dobkin to return as director, along with the original stars Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Fisher and Rachel McAdams. No word on whether they’ll try to bring back Will Ferrell, Bradley Cooper or Christopher Walken, each of whom had memorable moments in the first film. Andrew Panay is returning as producer.

New Line sparked to the writing team Susser & Robichaux after they scripted the upcoming Ice Cube-Charlie Day starrer Fist Fight, which the studio releases February 17. The writers competed for the open writing assignment, and their pitch for the sequel won them the job. The original grossed $285 million worldwide on a $40 million budget.

The scribes are repped by UTA and Fourth Wall Management.

‘Nocturnal Animals’ Costars Amy Adams and Isla Fisher Share Epic Tales of Being Confused for One Another

In what is easily the year’s biggest casting triumphs, Isla Fisher plays the literary avatar of Amy Adams in the new story-within-a-story thriller Nocturnal Animals. The red-headed actresses have long been considered celebrity doppelgangers, and yes they do get mistaken for one another in person, too.

“It happens “a lot,” Adams, 42, told us at the film’s recent Los Angeles press day. “We’re dispelling the myth that we’re the same person,” said Fisher, 40. “There are going to be a lot of surprised folks out there. Because I get congratulated a lot on Enchanted.”

Fisher has also received props for Adams’s achievements from one very famous pop star. “After the Oscars the year [Adams was nominated for] American Hustle, I’m talking to Bono,” Fisher recalled, then stopped to apologize for the U2 name-drop. “The crowds part and in walks Lady Gaga. And she goes, ‘I just want to say, you were wonderful in American Hustle.’ But I don’t want to correct her because Bono’s there. So I just say, ‘Thank you.‘”

The actresses’ resemblance has made for some good gags, too. Adams recalled attending Fisher’s birthday party, where the guest of honor’s famous husband, Sacha Baron Cohen, brought it up in a toast. “He’s [saying], ‘I wanted to date Amy Adams, but she wasn’t available,’” Adams said. “I felt really awkward.”

The Hollywood couple even had Adams’s head Photoshopped onto Fisher’s body for one of their recent holiday cards. “It’s a running joke inside their family,” Adams explained. “It’s said, ‘Season’s Greetings from Amy, Sasha, and the kids,’” Fisher revealed. “But what’s amazing is several people didn’t even notice it wasn’t me. Or that my name was written ‘Amy.’”

Nocturnal Animals, which was written and directed by Tom Ford and costars Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Shannon, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Armie Hamme, opens in select cities Nov. 18 and nationwide Dec. 9. More coverage on the film to come.
