Isla Fisher’s Best Of 2012

Because Isla has had a busy year this year, I thought it would be fun to do a Best of 2012 post – as we finally have some things to pick ‘bests’ of!

It’s been a Fisher fantastic year for fans, with Isla having two films released this year – Bachelorette and Rise Of The Guardians – and promoting them both. She started off her 2012 in Sundance, where raunchy comedy Bachelorette was premiered with co-stars Kirsten Dunst and Lizzy Caplan. The film was one of the most talked about of the festival, and Isla took part in photoshoots and interviews for it. We were treated to another sighting of Isla a few months later, when she turned up to support her husband’s movie The Dictator at its London premiere. She looked fresh in a pale blue Dolce & Gabbana mini dress, showing off her great figure. A few weeks later Isla took a trip to the Cannes Film Festival where her new animated comedy Rise Of The Guardians was screened. Isla and co-stars Chris Pine and Alec Baldwin took part in a Q&A for the film, and Isla also attended the Calvin Klein Women In Film event with good friend Naomi Watts.

Bachelorette promotion kicked off in August and continued into September, when the film was released on Video On Demand in America. Isla and her co-stars attended a press conference plus two premieres for the film, did numerous press interviews, and appeared on US chat shows Chelsea Lately, Conan, The View AND Good Morning America! We hadn’t seen Isla do this much promotion for a movie since Confessions Of A Shopaholic in 2009, and it was such fun seeing her everywhere. I loved her red lace Reem Acra dress at the Los Angeles premiere for the film, but I think her gold sparkly Stella McCartney dress at the New York premiere just wins my ‘favourite look of the year’ award. Upon its Video On Demand release, Bachelorette went straight to #1 on the downloads chart, becoming the first film to ever do this prior to its theatrical release.

Isla went to a couple of fashion events in October 2012, before she went into promotion mode again in November for Rise Of The Guardians. For this movie she attended premieres in London and New York, and appeared on Live With Kelly & Michael to chat about the film. Her final public appearance in 2012 was another one to support her husband, at the London premiere of his new movie Les Miserables. Isla was a talking point of the carpet in a low cut and revealing white gown by Aussie designer Willow.

As said before, Isla had two films out this year. Bachelorette did extremely well as a download, but was less successful at the cinema box office. It received mixed reviews – which would be expected given the gritty nature of the film. Rise Of The Guardians was a film on the other end of the scale – a family fantasy movie about childhood heroes, in which Isla voiced a very pretty Tooth Fairy. This too received mixed reviews and currently totals an impressive $255m at the international box office. Rise Of The Guardians was a very pretty film, but my favourite of Isla’s in 2012 was Bachelorette – Isla was hilarious as the ditsy Katie and you can tell she was really able to let loose with the comedy! This was a girly comedy with a real edge, and one I can see myself watching several times.

When talking about Isla’s films of 2012, we can’t forget to give an honourable mention to The Dictator! Isla’s husbands latest release was just as smart and risky as his previous two films based on his creations, and Isla said she enjoyed the romance story in this one. While she wasn’t in the theatrical version, we did get a treat just before the DVD was released, as the studio released a deleted scene featuring a very familar red head playing a prostitute.

As well as public appearances and tv interviews, Isla also had three all new magazine spreads this year, including 2 covers! She and her Bachelorettes had a feature in Elle magazine, and later in the year Isla graced the cover of both Women’s Health UK and In Style Australia magazines. My favourite cover of the year was Women’s Health – mainly because the In Style Australia cover was so photoshopped. In Style wins best magazine spread though, because it had 8 glorious pages of a flowery and summery Isla – perfect!

As well as promoting movies, Isla also shot a few. She was called back to Australia to do re-shoots for The Great Gatsby briefly, and filmed magic thriller Now You See Me in numerous locations round the globe, including New York City, Paris and Las Vegas. Both films are eagerly anticipated in 2013 – The Great Gatsby was originally intended to release this month, December 2012, but was pushed back to May 2013 for various reasons; Now You See Me will follow soon after that in June. They’ve both had exciting looking trailers released, and are sure to be talked about more and more in the run-up to their respective releases. I’m looking forward to both films because they are so different from what Isla has done before, but I think Gatsby just inches ahead in terms of my most anticipated because Baz Luhrmann’s films are always extremely well done visually.

Favourite Isla moments of 2012? Seeing her out and about promoting movies so much was awesome – we love how private Isla keeps her life, so when she does promote movies it makes it all the more special. She always looks fab on the red carpet, and is charming and funny in interviews. Seeing her being funny and racuous and on screen with Kirsten Dunst in Bachelorette was great too. And of course the fact that she came out to support her husband’s new movies was lovely too.

So, what were your favourite Fisher moments from 2012, fellow fans? Leave a comment if you wish!
